Daffodils blooming in Pian Coltura

Every year, between mid-April and early June, an extraordinary event takes place: the meadows of Pian di Coltura are blanketed in blooming daffodils.

On the slopes of Monte Garda, in the area of Borgo Valbelluna, the "White Prince" offers a breathtaking natural display—perfect for both the eyes and the camera lens. The vibrant green of the meadows, the white of the flowers, and the yellow of their centers create a striking palette of colors, set against the dramatic backdrop of the Belluno Dolomites.

Although the bloom occurs naturally, it is the care and dedication of those who cherish this enchanted corner of the Dolomites that allow us to witness what many call an “upside-down sky” year after year.

For over a decade, volunteers from the Gruppo Natura Lentiai, with the support of Unifarco, the Municipality of Borgo Valbelluna, and other local organizations, have been restoring and maintaining these meadows. Their work includes mowing, removing invasive plants, and maintaining fences. Daffodils thrive in dry, unfertilized meadows—so to preserve their growth, it is essential that the hay is cleared after cutting.

Thanks to this ongoing commitment, the magical bloom continues to enchant visitors each May and June.To reach Pian di Coltura, head to Lentiai and follow the signs to Colderù. Drive up the paved road until you see the Rifugio Baioch on your left. You can park there or, as we did, continue for a few more bends until you find a clearing on the right near a small building. From there, follow the paved road, which soon turns to gravel and leads to Malga Garda. Along the way, you’ll be greeted by blooming meadows stretching out before you.

As this is a delicate and precious environment, visitor access needs to be carefully managed. To enjoy the experience while respecting nature and embracing the principles of slow tourism, guided tours are available on weekends throughout May.(If you're planning an overnight stay for your trip, you can book accommodation at our property via the following link: https://www.casepizzocco.com/prenota-un-appartamento)
